'Israeli' commander blasts military in scathing retirement message

The former commander of the Gaza Division in the ‘Israeli’ military, Nimrod Aloni, announced his retirement in a sharp and unprecedented public criticism of the military institution he served.

Aloni described the institution he’s leaving as one where “the concept of responsibility has been trampled and desecrated, and which has lost the confidence to put its failures on the table.”

The retired officer added that the ‘Israeli’ military strategy has harmed the economy and growth rather than protecting it.

“Two years ago, we tried to contain our enemies from south and north, thinking that time would do us good, for the economy and growth, and that we could preserve the status quo over time. We were wrong, all of us,” he said. 

Aloni had led the Military Colleges and the Depth Corps, but he was recently replaced by two other officials.

In the address, he did not reference his tenure as commander of the Gaza Division between 2020 and 2022, a year before the aggression on the enclave started. 

The Depth Corps had recently been reorganized to oversee operations beyond ‘Israeli’ borders, particularly targeting what is referred to as the “second circle,” including Yemen, Iraq, and other regions outside immediate frontiers to ‘Israel.’
