Iran executes man accused of being top 'Israeli' spy

Iran announced on Monday that it executed Bahman Choubi Asl, whom it described as a leading spy for 'Israel', following a conviction for espionage.

According to the judiciary’s Mizan Online website, “One of the leading spies of the Zionist regime in Iran, Bahman Choubi Asl, was hanged this morning.”

The execution comes after a turbulent period between the two countries. In June, 'Israel' launched unprecedented air strikes on Iranian military, governmental, and nuclear facilities, prompting a 12-day conflict that saw Iran respond with missile and drone attacks on 'Israeli' territory.

Since the end of the hostilities, Iranian authorities have pledged rapid trials for anyone suspected of collaborating with 'Israel'. Several arrests and executions have been reported in connection with alleged ties to Mossad, 'Israel’s' foreign intelligence agency.

Iranian officials said Choubi Asl had worked “closely” with 'Israeli' intelligence and had “privileged access to vital and sovereign databases” of the Islamic republic. The timing of his arrest has not been disclosed.

The 'Israeli' air strikes in June resulted in the deaths of senior military officers, nuclear scientists, and hundreds of other individuals, including civilians. On August 9, Iran’s judiciary announced investigations into 20 people detained over alleged links to 'Israel'.

Earlier in August, Iran executed Roozbeh Vadi, who was accused of passing information about a nuclear scientist killed during the June conflict.
