NATO opens liaison office in Jordan
NATO and Jordan celebrated a significant step in their long-standing collaboration with the official opening of the NATO Liaison Office (NLO) in Amman on September 16, 2025.
The event was attended by NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Southern Neighbourhood, Javier Colomina, who met with Jordan’s Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ambassador Dhaifallah Al-Fayez.
The establishment of the Liaison Office reflects nearly three decades of strategic cooperation between NATO and Jordan. As the Alliance’s first political presence in the Middle East, the Amman office aims to strengthen dialogue and practical cooperation while enhancing NATO’s visibility in the region in line with its Southern Neighbourhood Action Plan.
The office will serve as a hub for regular consultations on regional and global security developments, facilitate practical collaboration including through NATO’s Defence Capacity Building (DCB) Initiative, and promote public awareness of the partnership through outreach programs.
Colomina’s visit builds on a series of high-level engagements between NATO and Jordan, including King Abdullah II’s participation in NATO’s December 2024 Meeting of Foreign Ministers, the signing of the bilateral agreement establishing the NLO, the Partnerships and Cooperative Security Committee’s June visit to Jordan, and Colomina’s first visit to the country in November 2024.
