The event, organized by SAE Media Group in a partnership with the Jordan Design and Development Bureau (JODDB) and under the patronage of the Jordan Armed Forces, was inaugurated by Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Maj. Gen. Yousef Ahmed al-Huneiti.
Speakers at the conference stressed that the widespread use of commercial and non-commercial drones for illegal activities, such as smuggling weapons and narcotics, has created a need for advanced systems to detect and counter them.
JODDB's Counter-Drone Technology
Engineer Ahmed al-Zyoud, director of UAS countermeasure projects at JODDB, told the Jordanian Army radio that the bureau has successfully designed and developed integrated systems for detecting and jamming drones.
These systems are used by the Jordan Armed Forces and Air Defense on the borders and domestically.
Al-Zyoud explained that the technology relies on monitoring frequencies to determine the operator’s location and the drone's payload, allowing for suspicious drones to be downed in safe areas. He confirmed that the technology has proven its effectiveness, especially in combating cross-border smuggling.
Conference Goals and International Cooperation
Engineer Ratib Abu Al-Raghib, official spokesperson for JODDB, said the conference is the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa region. He noted the event includes 25 speakers from several countries, allowing attendees to learn about market trends and the dangers of drones while connecting innovation with security.
Myles Dixon, Managing Director at SAE Media Group, expressed pride in the partnership with JODDB, calling the conference a vital platform for regional and international experts to exchange strategies and technologies for confronting the growing threats from unmanned aircraft.
On the sidelines of the opening, Maj. Gen. al-Huneiti toured an accompanying exhibition, where he was briefed on the latest locally developed counter-drone systems and products from JODDB.
