UN probe finds 'Israeli' leaders ‘incited the commission of genocide’ in Gaza
United Nations investigators concluded Tuesday that 'Israeli' Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Isaac Herzog, and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant have “incited the commission of genocide” in Gaza, according to a report by the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry.
The commission’s report states that 'Israeli' authorities have failed to take action against the leaders to punish this incitement, raising concerns about accountability at the highest levels of government.
The investigators further concluded that since October 2023, Israel has committed acts that amount to “genocide” in Gaza, with “the intent to destroy the Palestinians” in the territory.
“We came to the conclusion that genocide is occurring in Gaza and is continuing to occur, and the responsibility lies with the State of Israel,” said Navi Pillay, head of the UN commission on the rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, in a statement to AFP.
The report marks one of the strongest international condemnations of 'Israel’s' actions in Gaza to date, placing the spotlight on both military operations and political rhetoric that UN investigators say has contributed to the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
