'Israel’s' National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said Monday he intends to build a luxury seaside neighborhood for police officers in the Gaza Strip following what he described as the “total defeat of Hamas,” renewing his call for Jewish settlement in the territory.

Speaking at a state police excellence ceremony ahead of Rosh Hashanah, Ben-Gvir praised 'Israeli' police officers for their service and positioned the plan as part of wider efforts to strengthen the force. “On the eve of the New Year, we gather to thank Israel’s police officers, who stand on the front line day and night,” he said. “The people are with you, the state is with you.”

The far-right minister highlighted recent investments in police housing in Sderot, Beersheba, Beit Shemesh and Jerusalem’s Nahlaot neighborhood, before outlining his vision for a new project in Gaza. “I am already planning the next neighborhood for police in one of the most beautiful places in the Middle East,” he said. “After finishing the decision in Gaza, I aim to build a luxurious police neighborhood facing the sea.”

Ben-Gvir claimed that settlement enhances security and described Jewish resettlement in Gaza as “a symbol of our faith and vision.” His remarks reflect a long-standing position: since early in the war, he has advocated renewed Jewish settlement in the enclave and suggested incentivizing Palestinian emigration.

He reiterated those themes throughout 2024 and into 2025, including during a controversial US trip where he spoke of his vision for a fully Jewish Gaza.
