Cosmetics brand Lush UK has announced it will shut all its shops, factories, and website for one day on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025, in a show of solidarity with the people of Gaza.

In a statement, Lush said the closures are intended to send a strong message: “STOP STARVING GAZA – WE ARE CLOSED IN SOLIDARITY.” The company acknowledged that closing its doors is not an easy decision, but emphasized that the action reflects the shared anguish felt by millions around the world over the suffering in Gaza.

“Providing our customers with the very best service is ingrained into everything we do at Lush, so shutting our shops is not an easy decision,” the company said. “We ask for forgiveness from any customers we inconvenience should they come to us on 3rd September and find us closed.”

Lush has a history of fundraising for Palestinian causes, including its popular Watermelon Slice soap, which previously supported child mental health programs in Palestine. The company plans to relaunch the soap, with proceeds going to medical services and charities providing prosthetic limbs for adults and children injured in Gaza.

The company also noted the wider impact of the closure: UK government tax revenue from Lush and its customers will be affected, underscoring the urgency of political action.

“We hope they hear the message our closure sends, with more Government action needed to bring an immediate stop to the death and destruction, including an end to arms sales from the UK,” Lush said.

While Lush operates in over 50 countries, the company said it felt it was important to lead this action from the UK, its country of origin, though similar initiatives may follow in other countries where Lush operates.
