E-Passport Features and Security
Speaking to Roya, Ministry spokesperson Shurouq Hilal explained that the new e-passport, which is certified by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), contains an encrypted electronic chip with the holder's biometric data.
"This advanced technology significantly raises the level of security, making the passport completely tamper-proof and non-forgeable," Hilal said.
“This will simplify travel procedures and enhance identity verification at airports worldwide."
Digital Progress
The launch of the e-passport service is a key achievement in the government's push to automate its transactions, a process that has reached nearly 70% of government services.
Hilal noted that the electronic service centers, which were established under the direct guidance of King Abdullah II and now number nine across the kingdom, have completed over 3.7 million government transactions to date.
She added that the ministry is proud of the 98% citizen satisfaction rate with these centers and is working to increase their number and extend their hours to provide maximum flexibility.
Digital Projects
Jordan's digital ambitions extend beyond passport services to other key sectors. Hilal revealed that the ministry is implementing several strategic projects in cooperation with various government bodies, including:
- Digital Signatures: To facilitate commercial and civil transactions and reduce reliance on paper documents.
- Digital Curricula: In partnership with the Ministry of Education to integrate technology into the educational process.
- Digital Health: An ambitious project with the Ministry of Health aimed at automating health services.
