Egypt, Qatar accuse ‘Israel’ of obstructing Gaza ceasefire efforts
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty accused 'Israel' of obstructing joint Egyptian-Qatari mediation efforts, stressing that Cairo and Doha remain committed to halting what he described as the “genocide against defenseless civilians” in Gaza.
In remarks following talks with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Abdelatty said discussions centered on “serious efforts to find political solutions regarding Gaza,” emphasizing shared positions between the two countries on the need for an immediate ceasefire.
He stated that “Egyptian-Qatari mediation efforts collide with 'Israel’s' intransigence and obstruction of the truce proposal,” holding 'Israel' directly responsible for the failure of negotiations.

For his part, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani criticized the lack of international action, saying:
- “It is unfortunate that we see no move from the international community to stop what is happening in Gaza.”
- “Sadly, ceasefire efforts have been met with further disregard.”
- “The international community must assume its responsibility to end the blockade and famine in Gaza.”
He reaffirmed that “Qatar and Egypt are determined to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza,” noting that without their joint partnership, the previous truce agreement in Gaza would not have been reached.
The Qatari official also warned of broader instability, saying: “Unfortunately, we are witnessing irresponsible 'Israeli' actions in Lebanon and Syria that are destabilizing the region’s security.”
The statements come as both Cairo and Doha push for urgent measures to halt the war and secure the entry of humanitarian aid into the besieged Gaza Strip.
