UNIFIL, Lebanese army discover tunnel, explosives in south Lebanon
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said its peacekeepers, working jointly with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), discovered a tunnel and multiple unexploded munitions during a recent operation near the town of Al Qusayr in southern Lebanon.
According to a statement posted on X, UNIFIL reported the tunnel was approximately 50 meters in length. The force added that the unexploded ordnances were located in the same vicinity.

The findings were immediately handed over to the LAF in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701, according to the statement.
UNIFIL did not provide further details on the origin of the tunnel or the type of ordnance discovered, but reiterated that all actions were conducted in “close coordination” with the Lebanese Armed Forces.
Resolution 1701, passed in 2006 to end hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, requires the area between the Litani River and the Blue Line to remain free of unauthorized armed personnel, assets, and weapons.
