Worst is yet to come: Jordan's heatwave to intensify Tuesday, Wednesday
As Jordan enters a scorching heatwave, ArabiaWeather has warned that the heatwave has not yet reached its peak, with temperatures expected to intensify on the coming Tuesday and Wednesday.
The center noted that the hot weather will coincide with unstable atmospheric conditions, creating the possibility for thundercloud formation that may lead to scattered rainfall and sudden dust storms, especially in the southern and eastern regions of Jordan.
- Weather details until the end of the week -
According to weather maps, the heatwave is expected to continue affecting Jordan throughout the current week. The peak of this wave will be on Tuesday and Wednesday, when temperatures are forecasted to reach their highest levels.
Alongside the intense heat, unstable weather conditions will emerge, characterized by sporadic thunderclouds. This may allow for localized rain showers, particularly concentrated in the southern and eastern parts of the country, sometimes accompanied by thunder.
- Downbursts and dust storms -
The main warning is not limited to the heat but also includes what is known as “downbursts” that accompany thunderclouds. These sudden and powerful winds stir up dense dust and dirt, which may cause the formation of sudden, local, or widespread dust storms.
- Tips to safely endure the heatwave -
Given these dual weather conditions, extreme heat and atmospheric instability, following safety precautions is vital. Here are the most important tips to get through this period safely:
-
Drink plenty of fluids: Keep your body hydrated by drinking ample water. Avoid sugary drinks or those containing caffeine as they increase fluid loss.
-
Avoid going out during peak hours: Try to stay in cool, shaded places as much as possible, especially between 11 AM and 4 PM, when the sun’s rays are strongest.
-
Wear appropriate clothing: Choose loose, cotton clothes in light colors that reflect sunlight and allow your body to breathe.
-
Care for vulnerable groups: Pay special attention to children, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses. Ensure they stay in cool, humid environments. Never leave anyone or pets inside a closed vehicle.
-
Be cautious while driving: Prepare for sudden winds and dust storms that may severely reduce visibility, especially on desert roads in southern and eastern Jordan. Reduce speed and maintain a safe distance.
-
Recognize signs of heat exhaustion: Be aware of symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, headaches, and excessive sweating. If these appear, move immediately to a cool place and drink water. Seek medical help immediately if the condition worsens.
