Hamas agrees to release 10 captives in effort to advance ceasefire talks
The Palestinian group Hamas announced on Wednesday that it has agreed to release 10 captives as part of efforts to advance ongoing negotiations aimed at reaching a comprehensive ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
In an official statement, the movement said it remains engaged in what it called “intensive and responsible efforts” to bring the current round of talks to a successful outcome.
According to Hamas, the group’s primary objectives include ending the 'Israeli' military assault on the Palestinian population, ensuring the unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza, and alleviating the worsening humanitarian crisis in the territory.
Hamas emphasized its flexibility in the negotiations and said the decision to release 10 captives reflects its commitment to supporting the mediation process.
The statement identified three key sticking points still under discussion: the entry and distribution of humanitarian aid, the withdrawal of 'Israeli' forces from Gaza, and concrete guarantees for a permanent ceasefire.
While Hamas acknowledged that reaching a final agreement remains difficult due to what it described as Israel’s “intransigence,” the group said it continues to work seriously and constructively with mediators in hopes of overcoming remaining obstacles.
The movement expressed optimism that a deal could be reached that would end the suffering of the Palestinian people and secure their aspirations for freedom, security, and a dignified life.
