The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) claimed on Wednesday that it had carried out an airstrike in southern Lebanon, killing a senior member of Hezbollah, in what marks the latest escalation amid ongoing tensions.

In a statement, the IOF stated that the strike took place in the area of Qaaqaaiyet El Jisr. According to the IOF, the individual killed was a key Hezbollah figure.

The IOF did not provide additional details regarding the specific circumstances of the operation.

Earlier in 2025, "Israeli" media reported that the Israeli Occupation security cabinet decided to maintain its current military presence in southern Lebanon.

"Israel's" Channel 14 stated that Tel Aviv has no plans to withdraw from southern Lebanon at this time, citing the Lebanese army's alleged failure to comply with required security agreements. According to the report, this prompted Tel Aviv to keep its forces in place to strengthen the northern front.

The channel also quoted security sources saying that the army remains on high alert and is prepared to respond "harshly and immediately" to any violations by Hezbollah, amid heightened tensions along the Lebanese border.

Meanwhile, Yedioth Ahronoth reported that Tel Aviv is keen to sustain the ceasefire in Lebanon but warned that any breach would be met with a strong response.

The report added that the security cabinet did not vote on withdrawing from southern Lebanon, noting that Netanyahu's administration is coordinating the ceasefire in Lebanon with the Trump administration.
