Jordan Hejaz Railway to launch first tourist train in Mafraq

The Jordan Hejaz Railway is set to launch its first-ever tourist train journey in Mafraq Governorate this Saturday, marking a new chapter in the promotion of domestic tourism and cultural revival efforts in the region, Jordan News Agency (Petra) reported.

Passengers will be welcomed at the station with a traditional performance by a local Mafraq folklore troupe, offering a vibrant display of the area’s heritage and customs.

The itinerary will take travelers on a cultural tour through the town of Rehab, with stops at historic churches and ancient mosaic sites—some of the most iconic symbols of Jordan’s religious and artistic history.

To enhance the cultural immersion, a local bazaar will also be organized, offering traditional food, handmade crafts, and locally produced goods. The market aims not only to enrich the visitor experience but also to support small businesses and artisans in the area.

Zahi Khalil, General Manager of the Jordan Hejaz Railway Corporation, said the initiative reflects a broader plan to revitalize tourist rail services and spotlight heritage-rich areas across the country.

“This project is part of our long-term vision to reconnect people with their roots and expand the use of the railway in showcasing Jordan’s hidden treasures,” Khalil said.

He also stressed the importance of collaboration with municipalities, local communities, and the private sector in creating unique tourism experiences and transforming historic train stations into cultural landmarks.

This journey is just the beginning of a series of similar initiatives aimed at celebrating Jordan’s diversity and encouraging citizens to rediscover the beauty and history within their own borders.
