Jordan arrests five over social media posts inciting sectarianism
The spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate announced that the Cybercrime Unit has identified and arrested the administrators of five social media accounts operating within Jordan. These accounts were found to be spreading content that incites sectarianism and promotes racial discord.
The individuals behind these accounts have been referred to the judiciary, and the public prosecutor has ordered their detention in correctional and rehabilitation centers pending legal proceedings.
The spokesperson emphasized that specialized teams continue to monitor all online content that violates the law or promotes hate speech. Authorities have also identified other account administrators operating both within and outside Jordan, with necessary measures and alerts issued against them.
He stressed that there will be zero tolerance for such content, regardless of its origin, reaffirming the government's commitment to protecting national unity and social cohesion, and to taking firm action against any attempts to incite divisions within Jordanian society.
