Prime Minister Jafar Hassan held a series of high-level meetings in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday with senior US administration officials, focusing on enhancing the long-standing strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States, particularly in the economic sphere.

The discussions underscored the strength of bilateral relations that have endured for over 75 years, with an emphasis on building upon the progress made under the US-Jordan Free Trade Agreement signed nearly 25 years ago. Talks centered on expanding economic and trade cooperation, which has seen significant growth over the past two decades.

During his visit, Prime Minister Hassan met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz. The meetings explored avenues for greater collaboration in investment and economic development, and the two officials expressed appreciation for King Abdullah II’s leadership and his efforts to promote peace and security in the region.

Regional developments were also discussed, particularly the ongoing war in Gaza. Prime Minister Hassan reiterated Jordan’s position, led by King Abdullah II, calling for an immediate ceasefire and the urgent and sustained delivery of humanitarian aid throughout the Gaza Strip. He also stressed the need to de-escalate tensions in the West Bank.

In separate meetings with US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick — attended by US Trade Representative Ambassador Jesmon Greer — discussions focused on advancing cooperation in trade, investment, technology, energy, pharmaceuticals, and water. The officials also explored support for major development projects in Jordan.

The Prime Minister highlighted Jordan’s Economic Modernization Vision, particularly investment in large-scale initiatives such as the National Water Carrier Project. He affirmed that Jordan’s economy is built on strong foundations, supported by reforms to improve the business climate and a clear strategy under King Abdullah II’s leadership to achieve inclusive, sustainable growth.

Prime Minister Hassan also met with Russell Vought, Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, where they affirmed the importance of continued US assistance to support Jordan’s development efforts and its role in hosting refugees.

The Prime Minister stressed that Jordan’s partnership with the United States is both strategic and enduring, aimed at advancing shared interests at both bilateral and global levels.

US officials reaffirmed their appreciation for King Abdullah II’s role and reiterated their commitment to supporting Jordan’s security, stability, and development needs.

The meetings were attended by Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Eng. Yarub Qudah, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan, and Jordan’s Ambassador to the United States, Dina Kawar.
