US President Donald Trump blamed President Joe Biden for the ongoing war in Ukraine, calling it “Biden’s war” during comments made aboard Air Force One on Sunday.

“If I had won in 2020, none of this would have happened — not Ukraine, not the Middle East, not the Afghanistan disaster,” Trump said. “He gave them billions… and didn’t have the brains to stop the war before it started.”

Trump claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin had “so little respect for Biden” that it emboldened him to launch the invasion. He also accused Biden of failing to build strong ties with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, leading to what he described as “millions of dead people who should still be alive.”

Despite calling the conflict “deeply rooted,” Trump reaffirmed that ending the war remains a key priority for his administration.

Under Biden, the US committed roughly USD 175 billion in military and financial support to Ukraine. Biden repeatedly stated that Washington would back Kyiv “for as long as it takes,” while refusing direct talks with Moscow.

Since Trump’s return to office in January, US-Russia dialogue has resumed, with multiple rounds of high-level talks aimed at resolving the war and repairing diplomatic ties.

Russian officials welcomed the renewed contact, though Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted on Sunday that rebuilding trust will be a slow process.

“We’re walking this path together, carefully. The damage done under the previous administration was severe, and fixing it will take time,” Peskov said.
