Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, the leader of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), publicly admitted on Sunday for the first time that his forces had withdrawn from Khartoum.

This came after the Sudanese army declared on Thursday that it had regained full control of the capital.

In a message to his forces, which circulated on social media, Dagalo stated, "In recent days, there was a withdrawal to reposition our forces in Omdurman," a decision approved by the "leadership and operations management." He went on to say, "I assure you that we left Khartoum, but with God's will, we will return to Khartoum."

This was Dagalo's first statement since the announcement of the RSF's defeat and its expulsion from most areas of the capital by the Sudanese army after nearly two years of destructive conflict.

In a voice message published on Telegram, Dagalo, also known as Hemetti, vowed that his forces would return to Khartoum stronger than before.

On Thursday, the Sudanese army announced it had completed its control over Khartoum after seizing the last pockets of RSF presence in the capital.

On Saturday, Sudanese army spokesperson Nabil Ali confirmed that the armed forces had succeeded in taking control of the Libya Market area in Omdurman, expelling the RSF from the region.

The Sudanese military has been engaged in combat with the RSF since April 2023, following disputes over plans to integrate the RSF into the national armed forces.
