The Sudanese army announced on Thursday evening that it had gained full control over the capital, Khartoum, following a week-long military operation that led to the recapture of the presidential palace from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
In an official statement, army spokesperson Nabil Abdullah said, "Our forces have successfully cleared the last pockets of the Al-Dagalo militia terrorists in Khartoum locality," referring to the RSF led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo. The paramilitary group has been engaged in fierce battles with the army since April 2023.
These developments mark a significant shift in the ongoing conflict for power in Sudan, which has seen months of intense clashes between the two sides.
