Remembering Jana snowstorm in 2015

As Jordan marks the 10th anniversary of the “Jana” snowstorm, we reflect on the 2014/2015 rainy season, which began with strong rainfall. The autumn months were characterized by multiple weather disturbances and heavy rainfall across the country.

Signs of a robust winter season were evident early on, with continued rain throughout the start of winter. In early January, Jordan was hit by the "Huda" storm, bringing heavy rainfall and snowfall to some mountainous areas, with its effects lasting for several days.

However, February had its own distinct weather pattern. On February 19, 2015, an extremely cold air mass from Siberia swept into Jordan, lasting until February 21. This resulted in a sharp drop in temperatures and widespread snowfall across most high-altitude areas, except for the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba.
