Jordan’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 2.29 percent in January 2025, reaching 112.23 points compared to 109.72 points in January 2024, according to a report released Wednesday by the Department of Statistics.

The report attributed the rise to higher prices in several key commodity groups. Personal belongings recorded the highest increase at 14.99 percent, followed by tobacco and cigarettes at 12.73 percent, meat and poultry at 8.71 percent, spices and food enhancers at 5.31 percent, and culture and entertainment at 4.96 percent.

Conversely, some groups helped curb the overall increase. Furniture, carpets, and bedding declined by 3.57 percent, clothing by 2.42 percent, seafood products by 2.08 percent, and household appliances by 1.74 percent.

On a monthly basis, the CPI rose from 111.76 points in December 2024 to 112.23 points in January 2025, marking a 0.42 percent increase.

The report highlighted the main contributors to this monthly rise, including tobacco and cigarettes (up 5.61 percent), meat and poultry (5.12 percent), fruits and nuts (4.97 percent), water and sanitation services (4.15 percent), and tea, coffee, and cocoa (2.06 percent).
