Jordan to brace for cold weather starting Wednesday
Jordan is set to be impacted by the first deep low-pressure system of the season, bringing a cold air mass from the polar region starting Wednesday, according to weather maps.
The Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) reported that temperatures will significantly drop, with heavy rain expected across most areas.
Weather Forecast for the Next 48 Hours:
Monday and Tuesday:
The weather will remain relatively cold in most regions, with warmer temperatures expected in the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Aqaba. Cloud cover will increase at various altitudes, and winds will shift from southeast to northwest.
Wednesday:
The low-pressure system will gradually begin affecting Jordan, with overcast skies and rain starting in the north before spreading across the rest of the country by evening. The rainfall will intensify, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail, raising the likelihood of floods, particularly in low-lying areas. Strong western winds, reaching speeds of up to 70 km/h, will stir dust in desert regions.
Thursday:
The cold air mass will deepen, with temperatures continuing to drop, and rainy conditions will persist in most areas. Heavy rain is expected in the morning, potentially causing street and valley flooding. Light snow showers are possible on high mountain peaks. Winds will remain strong, easing gradually by nightfall.
Weather Warnings:
- Reduced visibility due to fog in mountainous areas and dust in desert regions.
- Risk of strong winds that could cause loose objects to become airborne.
- Increased water levels and possible flooding in valleys and low-lying areas due to heavy rainfall.
- Risk of vehicle skidding on wet or snowy roads in some high-altitude regions.
The JMD urged citizens to stay updated on official weather reports, take necessary precautions, and follow safety guidelines to ensure their well-being.
