Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Sami Smeirat highlighted Jordan’s commitment to digital transformation through a comprehensive national strategy focused on improving digital infrastructure and creating a sustainable business environment.

He emphasized the importance of innovative financing models, particularly public-private partnerships, to accelerate digital infrastructure deployment.

Speaking at the opening of the 2025 Regional Development Forum for Arab States in Amman on Monday, Smeirat noted Jordan’s significant progress in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector, establishing itself as a regional leader in the Middle East and North Africa.

He also pointed out that the country continues to enhance its innovation ecosystem, attracting global tech companies to invest and operate in Jordan.

Smeirat stressed that Jordan has been a pioneer in innovation since the 1980s, with numerous successful entrepreneurial projects on regional and global levels.

While acknowledging the region's progress in digital transformation, which has improved living standards, economic efficiency, and competitiveness, he also highlighted ongoing challenges like infrastructure gaps, regulatory barriers, and the digital divide. He called for collaborative efforts to address these issues.

He underscored the need for flexible policies and innovative digital governance to enable smooth cooperation between the public and private sectors.

Expanding telecommunications infrastructure—such as fiber optic networks, satellites, and 5G technology—is crucial to ensuring universal connectivity.
