Syrian Major Atef Najib arrested in Latakia

The Syrian General Security Directorate in Latakia confirmed the arrest of Major Atef Najib, who served as the head of the Political Security branch in Daraa and first cousin of former Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.

The Syrian news agency (SANA) reported that "in a special operation, the General Security Directorate in Latakia, in cooperation with military forces, succeeded in apprehending Major Atef Najib."

Lieutenant Colonel Mustafa Knefati, director of the General Security Directorate in Latakia, stated, "The criminal Atef Najib has been transferred to the relevant authorities to be tried and held accountable for the crimes he committed against the Syrian people," according to SANA.
