Tensions escalate in southern Lebanon with "Israel's" refusal to withdraw
As the deadline for "Israel's" withdrawal from southern Lebanon passed on Sunday, January 26, tensions in the region escalated, resulting in casualties.
Hebrew news outlet Ynet reported that 'Israeli' authorities quickly blamed Hezbollah for the escalation, accusing the group of inciting riots by sending protesters into the area.
The report stated that from the early morning hours, "Israeli" forces observed attempts by Hezbollah to provoke clashes, despite repeated warnings from the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) prohibiting anyone from approaching the area. "Israel" described the unfolding events in southern Lebanon as troubling.
In the latest developments, the Lebanese army confirmed that "Israeli" fire killed one of its soldiers in southern Lebanon, where hundreds of residents were attempting to return to their homes as "Israel’s" withdrawal deadline approached. The army’s statement also reported another soldier wounded, citing the ongoing "Israeli" aggression.
Lebanese Army on Sunday called on residents in southern Lebanon to exercise restraint and follow the guidance of military units to ensure their safety.
In a statement, the army announced it was facilitating the return of citizens to several border towns, including Aita al-Shaab, Bint Jbeil, Deir Seryan, and others.
