On Sunday, aboard Air Force One, US President Donald Trump suggested relocating one million Palestinians from Gaza to neighboring Arab countries, specifically naming Egypt and Jordan.

Trump stated that these countries should accommodate more Palestinians, saying that in Gaza “almost everything’s demolished, and people are dying there.” He further explained, “So, I’d rather get involved with some of the Arab nations, and build housing in a different location, where they can maybe live in peace for a change.”

Temporary or Permanent?

When asked whether the relocation would be temporary or permanent, Trump responded, “It could be either temporary or long-term.” He revealed a plan to “just clean out” Gaza and said he hoped Egypt and Jordan would assist in relocating Palestinians to promote peace in the Middle East.

Referring to Gaza as a “demolition site” following the war between 'Israel' and Hamas, Trump said he wants Egypt and Jordan to take people, describing Gaza as a place of constant conflict that needs a solution.

"Gaza is interesting. It’s a phenomenal location, on the sea. The best weather, you know, everything is good. It’s like, some beautiful things could be done with it, but it’s very interesting," he added.

Jordan's Steadfast Stance

Jordan’s King Abdullah II has repeatedly emphasized in international forums and meetings with world leaders the kingdom’s unwavering and non-negotiable position rejecting the forced displacement of Palestinians from the West Bank, Jerusalem, and Gaza.

The King has affirmed that Jordan will oppose any attempts to displace Palestinians within their occupied land or beyond, stating, "We will confront such attempts with all our capabilities."

Current Conditions in Gaza

Trump’s remarks coincided with preparations for hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to return to their homes in northern Gaza under a ceasefire agreement signed last week between 'Israel' and Hamas.

The deal includes a prisoner exchange in three phases, the return of displaced Palestinians from southern to northern Gaza, and 'Israel’s' withdrawal from the strip. Reconstruction efforts are planned for the final stage of the agreement.

However, the 'Israeli' military continues to block Palestinians from returning to the north, citing the pending release of 'Israeli' soldier Arbel Yehud as a condition for allowing their return.
