Man fatally strangles child after luring him; sentenced to death by hanging
The Court of Cassation in Jordan has upheld a death sentence by hanging for a man in his twenties convicted of murdering a nine-year-old boy in Amman after failing to carry out a sexual assault.
In its September ruling, the Grand Criminal Court found the man guilty of premeditated murder to facilitate and execute another crime, violating Article 328/2 of the Penal Code.
According to the court decision obtained by Roya, the convict lured the boy to his residence under the pretense of giving him books. When the child resisted and began screaming, the man strangled him using a scarf taken from his mother’s wardrobe, resulting in the boy's death.
The ruling stated that the man wrapped the victim’s body in a blanket and hid it under a rug among olive trees.
The child’s family, alarmed by his delayed return, reported his disappearance to the authorities. Following a search, police discovered the boy’s body among the olive trees.
The investigation led to the suspect’s arrest after authorities reviewed surveillance footage and conducted a scene analysis. He was subsequently referred to court, where he was sentenced to death for his crime.
