Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Al-Kharabsheh said Wednesday that solar energy projects are a top priority for the ministry and will play a central role in its upcoming plans.

Responding to a parliamentary inquiry, Al-Kharabsheh highlighted that 27 percent of Jordan's electricity is currently generated from solar energy.

He noted that Jordan leads the Middle East in renewable energy integration into its electricity mix.

The minister also revealed that under the amended Renewable Energy Law of 2022, 3,900 work permits were issued for renewable energy projects.

He added that the ministry is exploring all options for energy generation, including utilizing oil shale as a potential resource.
