In a dialogue session during the 55th World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos with journalist David Ignatius, Safadi emphasized the necessity for the international community to work collectively to ensure the continuation of the ceasefire in Gaza and to provide immediate and adequate humanitarian aid to all areas of the Strip.
He highlighted that a clear political vision for just peace, based on a two-state solution, is crucial for ensuring security, stating that security measures without a comprehensive political framework are ineffective.
Safadi noted that US President Donald Trump expressed his desire to make peace, asserting, "We are partners in this goal and will work together to achieve it," underlining the importance of US leadership in peace efforts.
He reiterated that any future approach to Gaza must prioritize its unity with the West Bank and focus on achieving just peace based on a two-state solution. In response to a question, he affirmed that the Palestinian Authority (PA) must assume responsibility for Gaza.
Safadi stressed that, within the framework of a political solution, the PA should exclusively control matters of war and peace, with no armed groups operating outside its authority.
He also addressed the devastating consequences of the war in Gaza, where over seventy percent of the more than 47,000 Palestinians killed due to the aggression were children and women, emphasizing the urgent need for effective humanitarian assistance.
Furthermore, he underscored the importance of supporting Lebanon and its institutions and the necessity of standing with Syria as it transitions into a new phase following the previous regime's collapse, allowing Syrians to rebuild a free, unified, and sovereign nation that upholds the rights of all its citizens.
Safadi is currently holding meetings with various foreign ministers and officials on the sidelines of the 55th World Economic Forum in Davos.
