VIDEO: Taiwan earthquake injures 27
A 6.4-magnitude earthquake hit southern Taiwan early Tuesday, injuring 27 people and causing minor to moderate damage.
The quake, which struck at 12:17 a.m., was centered 38 kilometers southeast of Chiayi County Hall at a depth of 10 kilometers. The US Geological Survey recorded a magnitude of 6.
Reports of damage came from Chiayi and Tainan, with a collapsed house in Tainan's Nanxi district leading to the rescue of six people, including a one-month-old baby.
The Zhuwei Bridge on a provincial highway was also damaged. No fatalities have been reported.
In Tainan and Chiayi, three people were rescued from elevators without injuries. A fire at a Chiayi printing factory was quickly extinguished, with no injuries.
Taiwan is located on the Pacific "Ring of Fire," known for frequent earthquakes.
