Oil prices surged significantly on Friday, surpassing USD 80 per barrel, amid growing speculation that the United States may impose new sanctions on Russia, potentially impacting Russian oil exports.
Brent crude for March delivery rose 4.5 percent to USD 80.38 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for February delivery climbed 4.8 percent to USD 77.47 per barrel, according to data compiled by AFP.
Brent crude prices earlier reached USD 76.08 per barrel.
