Traffic law reduces fatalities by 9 percent: Official
Colonel Anwar Al-Kharabsheh, Deputy Director of the Traffic Department at the Public Security Directorate, announced that the implementation of Jordan’s new traffic law has led to a 9 percent decrease in road accident fatalities.
Speaking on a radio program Thursday, Al-Kharabsheh revealed that unsafe lane usage caused 123 deaths, while mobile phone use and failure to follow safety precautions resulted in 176 additional fatalities.

To enhance transparency, he explained that traffic violations, whether directly observed or recorded through cameras, are increasingly documented with photos or videos to build trust and accountability.
He also noted efforts to combat manipulation of license plate numbers, which can lead to incorrect fines being issued. Advanced cameras are now in place to detect drivers using mobile phones or not wearing seat belts, aiming to improve driving behavior and road safety.
Al-Kharabsheh concluded by emphasizing the positive impact of the new law, which continues to reduce fatal accidents while promoting safer driving practices.
