Security Directorate: K9 dog unit handles 65 daily crime prevention missions

The Forensic and Laboratories Department under the Public Security Directorate (PSD) announced significant advancements achieved during the reign of His Majesty King Abdullah II, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

The Public Security Directorate (PSD) announced today that it is now globally recognized for its efficiency, capability, and reliability in combating crime.

Major General Dr. Abeidallah Maaitah, Director of the PSD, stressed the importance of equipping the directorate with state-of-the-art tools to enhance its role in criminal investigations, crime prevention, and identifying offenders.

Dr. Nayef Al-Zyoud, Director of the Forensic and Laboratories Department, described the unit as a cornerstone of criminal investigations, rooted in scientifically proven evidence and analysis. He highlighted the establishment of the country’s first criminal evidence laboratory in 1965, reflecting a longstanding commitment to citizen and resident safety.

Crime scene unit:

Dedicated teams specialize in examining crime scenes, collecting evidence, and conducting analyses.

Operations span 13 specialized laboratories, including technical and chemical facilities.

DNA analysis and identification:

The directorate employs advanced DNA analysis and profiling techniques to identify individuals and connect them to crimes.

K9 unit:

The highly trained K9 unit undertakes 65 daily missions to prevent crimes, track suspects, and detect weapons and explosives.
