The World Food Program (WFP) announced the deaths of three of its staff members in an airstrike in Sudan on Thursday.

The announcement also mentioned that the WFP's field office was damaged during the attack.

Since April 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in armed conflict between the army led by Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo ("Hemedti").

The conflict has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and the displacement of over 11 million people, leading the UN to describe it as the worst humanitarian crisis in recent memory.

Both parties are accused of committing violations against civilians, including the deliberate targeting of residential areas and medical facilities.

In light of these tragic circumstances, the United States announced an additional USD 200 million in aid to support Sudan on Tuesday, amid UN warnings of a worsening hunger crisis.
