Officials deny rumours of cigarette price hike in Jordan
Reports circulated on social media claiming that a tobacco company in Jordan plans to raise cigarette prices by 10 piasters per pack.
Some citizens have reported that certain shops have stopped selling cigarettes, amid rumors that the company intends to implement the price increase starting December 12, 2024.
The spokesperson for the Income and Sales Tax Department firmly denied any decision to raise cigarette prices in Jordan, stating that no changes to cigarette prices have been made.
In September, the department published the final prices for all cigarette brands available in Jordan.
The department's director-general, Hussam Abu Ali, issued formal letters to all tobacco companies, emphasizing the need for strict compliance with the specified product prices.
He also stressed that companies and distributors must not exceed the allowed price increase of 100 fils (10 piasters) per pack.
