Authorities reveal details behind Iyad Samara's murder abroad
The spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate (PSD) announced that a special investigation committee within the Criminal Investigation Department is probing the disappearance of Jordanian citizen Iyad Khaled Ali Samara, amid reports suggesting he may have been murdered outside the Kingdom.
According to the spokesperson, investigations revealed that Samara left Jordan for Syria in April 2024, after which his family reported him missing due to a lack of communication.
Recently, new information emerged, indicating a connection between Samara and two individuals with whom he had a business relationship. These suspects were located and arrested for questioning.
During the investigation, the suspects confessed to plotting Samara’s murder. They admitted to luring him outside Jordan, where they intended to kill him. Upon reaching Beirut, Lebanon, they allegedly poisoned Samara’s food with a toxic substance.
After confirming he was dead, they disposed of his body and took his personal belongings and phone, which they later discarded in a remote location before returning to Jordan.
In response to these developments, officials coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Jordanian Embassy in Beirut, and the Lebanese police. Authorities confirmed the discovery of an unidentified body near a beach on the same date Samara lost contact with his family.
The case and the two suspects have been referred to the public prosecutor for major crimes. They have been detained on charges of premeditated murder and complicity. A third individual has also been arrested for being aware of the murder plot.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working within legal frameworks and maintaining communication with relevant ministries and law enforcement agencies to ensure a thorough inquiry into the case.
