Syrian army says regaining control of Hama, Homs
The Syrian Army announced the redeployment of most of its forces in the southern governorates of Daraa and Suwayda, relocating then outside amidst escalating security tensions and attacks on military positions.
In a statement on Saturday, the General Command of the Syrian Army and Armed Forces said: “Our forces in Daraa and Suwayda have conducted a strategic redeployment, establishing a defensive perimeter in response to [...] assaults targeting dispersed army checkpoints. This move supports ongoing operations to regain control in Homs and Hama provinces...”
Clashes in Homs
Meanwhile, reports indicate renewed clashes between Syrian forces and armed groups in northern Homs, with the army carrying out artillery strikes on armed groups' positions.
In Daraa, fighting erupted near the Nasib border crossing with Jordan.
Jordan closes border crossing
Amid rising tensions, Jordanian Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya announced the closure of the Jaber border crossing with Syria on Friday, citing deteriorating security in southern Syria.
The developments come as Syrian forces focus on regaining control of Homs and Hama in central Syria, where military operations continue against armed groups.
