Israeli Occupation Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich
Jordan condemns 'Israeli' Finance Minister's extremist remarks
Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has strongly condemned the extremist, racially inciting remarks made by Israeli Occupation Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, which advocate for the annexation of occupied Palestinian land, the expansion of settlements, and the displacement of Palestinians.
In a statement released on Monday, the ministry described Smotrich's comments as a blatant violation of international law and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent, sovereign state along the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The ministry’s spokesperson, Ambassador Dr. Sufian Qudah, emphasized Jordan's rejection and condemnation of these inflammatory settlement calls, which constitute a gross breach of international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions. He reaffirmed that all 'Israeli' settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, are illegal under international law, in addition to the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice confirming the illegality of the Israeli occupation and its settlements.
Ambassador Qudah further asserted that the racist ideology reflected in the finance minister's statements is an extension of the extremist policies of the occupying government, which continues its aggression against Gaza, imposing a blockade on the northern region and preventing food and medical supplies from reaching its residents in a bid to displace them.
The ministry called on the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities by demanding an immediate cessation of Israeli Occupation's aggression on Gaza, ending the humanitarian catastrophe caused by the assault, ensuring the protection of civilians, halting illegal and dangerous escalation measures in the occupied West Bank, and providing necessary protection for the Palestinian people while establishing a genuine political horizon for a two-state solution that addresses the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
