Army downs drug-laden drone in cross-border smuggling attempt

The Jordanian Southern Command thwarted an attempt to smuggle narcotics using a drone on its western front on Saturday.

In a brief statement, the Jordanian Armed Forces-Arab Army said: "Border Guards in the Southern Command, in coordination with military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, intercepted an attempt to smuggle drugs via a drone attempting to cross the border."

It added that the drone was tracked and the engagement rules were applied, leading to its interception and downing within Jordanian territory. The seized items were handed over to the relevant authorities.

“The Jordanian Armed Forces remain committed to utilizing all resources to prevent these narcotics from reaching the nation’s citizens and affecting national security,” the statement concluded.
