A man was sentenced to 12 years in prison by Jordan's Grand Criminal Court after being convicted of attempted murder for years of systematic abuse and violence against his wife, leaving her in a state of constant fear and danger.

The court ruling, issued in September, detailed the horrific acts of physical and sexual abuse committed by the husband, including severe beatings and life-threatening injuries. According to the court, the man used a metal pipe and a rolling pin to violently assault his wife, causing life-threatening injuries, including a perforated rectum that required urgent surgical intervention.

The abuse, which began in 2016, spanned eight years during their marriage, during which the couple had three children. The court's decision revealed that the husband not only subjected his wife to physical violence but also forced her to endure degrading and inhumane treatment, including burning her with cigarettes and forcing her to consume urine and feces.

Throughout the years of abuse, the victim was repeatedly taken to the hospital, but out of fear for her life and the safety of her children, she was coerced by her husband into lying about the cause of her injuries, claiming they were accidental.

The final hospital visit, which occurred months before the court ruling, led to the discovery of severe injuries, including blood poisoning, prompting the victim to file a formal complaint against her husband.

This case sheds light on the grave issue of domestic abuse and highlights the importance of legal intervention in protecting victims.
