Jordan condemns “Israeli” calls for settlements in Gaza

Jordan strongly condemned the calls made by “Israeli” ministers and Knesset members to build settlements in the Gaza Strip, calling it a blatant violation of international law and humanitarian law.

This expansionist mindset necessitates the imposition of international sanctions against those responsible – a statement by Jordan’s Foreign Ministry said.

Ministry spokesman, Ambassador Dr. Sufian Qudah, emphasized Jordan's outright rejection and condemnation of these incitements for settlement expansion, which clearly violate international law and UN Security Council resolutions, especially Resolution 2334.

This resolution condemns all “Israeli” actions aimed at altering the demographic composition, character, and status of the occupied Palestinian territory since 1967, including East Jerusalem, and affirms that “Israeli” settlements are illegal under international law.

The advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice also confirmed the illegality of Israeli occupation and settlements in the Palestinian territories – the statement added.

Ambassador Qudah added that the settlement calls in Gaza are an extension of the extremist “Israeli” government's policies, which continue their aggression on Gaza, imposing a blockade on the north of the Gaza Strip, and restricting the entry of food and medicine in an attempt to enforce new realities by force.

He reiterated Jordan's rejection of any approach that treats Gaza as separate from the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories, stressing that any action must be based on a comprehensive vision aimed at reaching a solution to the Palestinian issue.

This includes the two-state solution, ending the occupation, and establishing an independent, sovereign Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967, lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Ambassador Qudah called on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to assume its legal and moral responsibilities by obliging “Israel” to immediately cease its aggression on Gaza, end the resulting humanitarian catastrophe, ensure the protection of civilians, and stop “Israel's” illegal and dangerous escalatory measures in the occupied West Bank.
