UNRWA chief confirms 200 staff killed in Gaza
The Commissioner-General of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, announced that 200 of the agency's staff members have been killed in Gaza, describing the situation as horrific for relief teams.
He explained that the Gaza Strip has become uninhabitable due to the extensive damage to infrastructure.
Lazzarini also pointed out that the Middle East is going through a difficult period, with intensive efforts to halt the fighting and deliver humanitarian aid.
However, he expressed concern over the decline in aid provided to Gaza.
Lazzarini further emphasized that UNRWA is closely monitoring the situation in Lebanon with concern, especially as the number of displaced persons there has exceeded 1.2 million.
He also voiced fears about attempts by some "Israeli" legislators to pass laws aimed at dismantling UNRWA.
