Heavy security presence, raids in East Amman after explosives found in Marka
A significant security operation unfolded in East Amman on Monday, involving area closures and undisclosed raids. Witnesses reported the first raid in the industrial area of Qweismeh.
Various specialized units, including K9 teams, participated, and some items were confiscated from two shops. No confirmed arrests were reported.
Additional raids occurred in other areas of East and South Amman on Tuesday morning, following the discovery of explosives in a house in South Marka two days prior.
Explosive storage and investigation revealed
In a prior official statement, security forces revealed that individuals had stored explosive materials in a house. Royal Engineering Corps explosives experts and security forces safely detonated the materials on-site after taking all necessary precautions, with no injuries reported.
Expert analysis: Two explosive belts found
Retired Major General Ammar Al-Qudah, former Director of the Reform and Rehabilitation Centers, explained on Roya’s "Nabd Al-Balad" that the perpetrators, influenced by extremist ideologies, aimed to target festivals, gatherings, malls, and security locations, similar to past incidents in Baqaa and Fuheis.
He revealed that security forces apprehended the primary suspect, linked to extremist ideologies, after a house explosion caused by chemical reactions involving commonly available materials. These materials were enhanced with detonators and nails to create improvised explosive devices. The investigation also uncovered two explosive belts.
Al-Qudah emphasized that the suspects intended to carry out bombings, reflecting their extremist beliefs.
