A horrifying incident unfolded at a popular Egyptian resort, Hurghada, as tourists witnessed a man being attacked and devoured by a shark just meters away from a crowded beach, as reported by The Daily Beast.

A hotel's shoreline became the scene of the tragic incident, according to reports from Russian media, which confirmed the victim's nationality as Russian.

Viktor Voropayev, Russia's consul-general in Hurghada, disclosed to the TASS news agency that the fatal attack occurred on Thursday. He identified the victim as 23-year-old "V. Popov," while Russian media sources named him as Vladimir Popov, a freelance illustrator residing near Moscow.

Footage of the encounter captured hotel staff urgently warning swimmers to evacuate the water as the shark can be seen approaching.

Eyewitnesses recounted how rescuers attempted to save Popov, but by the time they reached him, it was too late.

Reports suggest that Popov's girlfriend, mentioned in Russian media, managed to swim away and escape the horrifying ordeal.

Following this tragic incident, tourists visiting the resort have been prohibited from entering the water for their safety.
