No new COVID-19 variants recorded in Jordan recently: Belbisi

Adviser to the Prime Minister for Health Affairs, responsible for the coronavirus file, Adel Belbisi, said Monday that Jordan has not recorded any new COVID-19 variants recently.

Belbisi told Roya that the Ministry of Health is conducting random PCR tests on those coming to Jordan through land and air crossings for the purpose of detecting any new variants.

The Ministry of Health Sunday said that Jordan recorded 17 coronavirus deaths and 1,731 cases during the 13th epidemiological week (from March 26 until April 1), bringing the death toll from the pandemic to 14,048 and the caseload to 1,694,216.

Belbisi said that this week’s total number of COVID-19 cases dropped by 45 percent from the previous week, adding that the death toll also dropped by 39 percent.

As for the coronavirus vaccination campaign in Jordan, the ministry noted that a total of 4,740,611 people have received the first dose of the vaccine and the number of those who have received both doses reached 4,455,974.
