Jordanians are anticipating Prime Minister Dr. Bisher Al-Khasawneh's issuance of an official holiday notice in the coming days, marking the occasion of the upcoming Hijri New Year.

The first day of Muharram, the beginning of the Hijri year, is set for Sunday, July 7, 2024. Traditionally, the government declares the Hijri New Year a public holiday in Jordan.

This year, the last two days of the current Hijri year fall on a Friday and Saturday, followed by Sunday, the first day of the new Hijri year 1446. Consequently, Jordanians are expected to enjoy a three-day holiday period.

Earlier in the year, Jordanians had a nine-day holiday for Eid Al-Adha.

Remaining public holidays for 2024 include:

  • Parliamentary elections on September 10 (Tuesday)
  • Commemoration of the Prophet’s date of birth on September 15 (Sunday)
  • Christmas on December 25 (Wednesday)
