The Israeli Occupation Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on Monday pledged to review reports accusing the Israeli Occupation’s police of spying on citizens using “Pegasus” spyware.

Police called on the government to create an independent investigation committee.

Bennett said that the spyware should be used in counterterrorism and combating crime and not to target the privacy of citizens, adding that these accusations are serious.

Israeli Occupation police commissioner said that the misuse of the “Pegasus” spyware occurred before he took the position, stressing that regaining the public’s trust is essential.

The daily economic Hebrew newspaper, Calcalist, reported that the Israeli Occupation’s police had spied on the cell phones of municipality presidents, CEOs, activists, dissidents, PM’s councilors, and the former PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s son.

The spying included individuals under investigation in Benjamin Netanyahu’s corruption trial. The case remains under review from the Israeli Occupation public prosecution.

Netanyahu's defense lawyers are preparing to submit a request to the court to drop the testimony of one of the witnesses or to reinvestigate with others.

Netanyahu is under investigation for corruption charges. Earlier, he pleaded not guilty and accused the court of arranging a coup against him.
