Barbershop in Dubai offers free haircuts to jobseekers
CG Barbershop in Dubai's Media City is offering free haircuts to jobseekers who "have interviews lined up," according to The National.
Co-owner Francesca Gamal says she knows the financial anxiety many are facing, as CG, too, is a small business that had to lockdown due to coronavirus-related closures in the UAE.
"We’ve recognised that if we can help ease the burden for some people, then we will," she told The National.
"A haircut is a luxury spend for most so we want to help in any way we can.”
One man who lost his job in a travel agency and received a haircut at CG said, "The UAE community has kept me going since I was made jobless."
Others echoed his claim, saying the haircut was a 'morale boost.'
“I’m feeling so good after getting my hair cut – it’s been months since I was able to afford it. It’s a luxury spend and tough to do when you’re out of work," said another.
CG, which has expanded its working hours in order to lend a helping hand to more people- and is also involved in other charitable initiatives- cut the hair of seven Dubai residents this past week alone.
Despite an aggressive vaccine campaign, coronavirus cases remain high in the UAE, as do closures and financial cuts.
