Saturday, the UAE's media office said that Dubai has expanded the eligibility criteria for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine against coronavirus to include women who are breastfeeding, and those who are making plans to get pregnant.

According to Al Arabiya, the CEO of Latifa Hospital for Women and Children, Muna Talhak said, “Clinical studies show that the mRNA vaccine is safe for women who are breastfeeding or planning to conceive unless the patient has certain medical contraindications to vaccines or any vaccine component.”

Talhak ensured mothers who are breastfeeding that they can now take the Pfizer vaccine, along with any other COVID-19 jab manufactured using mRNA technology, adding that there is no need to stop breastfeeding prior to, or after receiving a jab.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that mRNA vaccines "teach our cells how to make a protein—or even just a piece of a protein—that triggers an immune response inside our bodies. That immune response, which produces antibodies, is what protects us from getting infected if the real virus enters our bodies."
