Dubai receives first shipment of AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine

The Dubai Health Authority announced that it will begin offering citizens and residents the AstraZeneca-Oxford COVID-19 vaccine. This came after the emirate received the first shipment of the vaccine from India, the Dubai Media Office said Tuesday.

“@DHA_Dubaiadds the AstraZeneca vaccine to its authorised list of Covid-19 vaccines provided at DHA medical facilities. The first shipment of the vaccine has been received from India, thanks to efforts by @MoFAICUAE, in cooperation with the Indian Foreign Ministry,” the Dubai Media Office said on Twitter.

The Pfizer-BioNtech and the Chinese Sinopharm vaccines have been available in Dubai for free for citizens and residents.

Last month, health officials said that over three million people have already received a COVID-19 vaccine across the UAE.

On Dec. 12, the UAE began its national COVID-19 vaccination campaign.

Earlier Monday, Dubai tightened its health restrictions in order to limit the spread of the coronavirus. The new precautionary measures came into effect on Feb. 2 and until Feb. 28.
